clutch or linkage problems-change to side shift?

hey i have an important question. i currently own a 72 1.7L with dual webers. it seems that everytime i push the clutch in to change gears, etc, the tranny grinds no matter what i do. i have adjusted the NEW clutch cable to its maximum. there is no more room for the clutch cable to possibly be tighter. soo does this mean my clutch isnt disengaging. also i have heard that the side shift tranny shifts much easier exspecially in 1st gear. how much would it take to swap tranny's..linkage stuff like that. thanx:)

grinds all gears or just 1st?

Is there a spacer on the transmission end of the clutch cable, between the trunion and the adjustment nuts? If not, try finding one or putting a ~1/2" spacer in there.

Sounds like a clutch adjustment problem to me.

I had the problem of the clutch coming out of adjustment. I double nutted the adjustment nut and never looked back. Hope this helps.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/zuna.gif
