Post Fuel lines

Started up the '73 after 4 mos. in the garage. Turned it off rather quickly after a few gallons of gas pumped out onto the garage floor from the front of the car. I guess after 28 yrs. the fuel lines may be a little brittle. Question: How many fuel lines are at the bottom of the tank? I can feel (3)??? thru the access hole behind the steering rack. The fuel pump has been relocated to front trunk by previous owner. Are the lines all the same diameter? What size do I need? Not looking forward to removing the fuel tank. Oh well... Thanks in advance for the help and responses.

I'm afraid your only real choice is to drain and remove the fuel tank to get at the lines

The good news is that it's not all that hard.

EJP, you do not have to remove the tank to replace the fuel lines, but to make life a little easyer you will need to make the access hole a little larger using some tin snips. Just trim the hole enough to fit your hand through, be carefull - sharp metal. Since you are going this far plan on replacing the plastic lines with stainlees steel lines, this can be done easily, contact me for advice on doing this or look on PP tech support. Your problem kight be broken plastic lines or one of the two hoses that lead to the tank. These should all be replaced.

Having just gathered for my project the same type of information you're looking for, I can say you'll find just about all the information you'll need right here at PP.

Check out the tech articles, and search the forum for "Fuel Line","Fuel Hose" etc.

And remember, Safety First! Fire extinguisher, goggles, gloves, respirator, drip pan, absorbent sand -- they all seems needless until you need them.

Don't be afraid of pulling the tank, its very easy to do. DO NOT CUT THE SHEET METAL AS PREVIOUSLY SUGGESTED>>>you'll hate yourself for abusing the little car!

They come out in about 10 minutes...replace all the rubber lines for another 28 years.

Oh ya, make sure no young children are around when you are feeding the new lines in the center tunnel..You'll be using a few 4 letter words to help you get them through.
Ha!! love them 914's
