Installing front sway bars
I just acquired a front sway bar, and want to use the 'remove the tank' option of installing it.
I have the bracket that goes on the outer side of the of the wheel well (the one that the bushing fits into) but not the triangle piece that goes on the inside of the wheel well. (I need this, right?) Is this inner triangle available here for sale? If so, is it the Weltmeister Front Triangle Mount Adapter Kit ? (Seems like an obvious 'yes', but just wanted to be sure before purchasing.) I believe that the sway bar I have is stock 15mm. (all pieces that came with it minus the bar are shown below). I also assume that the Weltmeister U-tabs will be the ones I'll need as well (my car doesn't have them installed already.) Just looking for clarification before purchasing- Thanks! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1139121840.jpg |
Next question might be what year your car is...
Later years (not sure which) already had the inner triangle installed. Just no holes. |
That's a yes to both your questions. The triangle kit and the U-tab kit will help you to install your sway-bar.

Awesome- thanks guys!
And my car is a '75 2.0, so with any luck when I remove the gas tank I'll find that the triangles are already installed. I have noticed that most people seem to weld theirs in, is this necessary? |
It's not necessary, but it does seem to help spread the stresses out over a larger area. That makes it more difficult for the fender to tear, which is a good thing.

I don't believe '75s had the triangles already installed. my 75 had what looked like flat sections where the swaybar mounts should go, but no hardware already installed. I would highly reccommend buying a set of the triangle shaped nut plates from Engman to complete your kit. Otherwise get some nuts to hold those bolts and swaybar to the body.
Edit: Nevermind... I see how those bolt down to the body now. I would still reccommend the triangle shaped nut plates from engman over those bent studs to retain it to the body. |
The U-bolts are the "no tank removal" installation kit. They're pretty miserable--I recommend against using them. We carry the Weltmeister nut plates and U-tab kits.
