one more question (914 Related)

okay, when cold....I get a chattering sound....sounds like those cooling flaps rattling around.....is something messed up?

Dude, you need a functioning thermostat.
I read in another post that you now have money...
Jake has used thermostats.

The rattle could either be the large flappers on top, or the two smaller doors on the bottom...

Start hunting for the loose one.

Have you tried to test your thermostat?
Cold water/hot water test...
Sometimes they just get so much oil/dirt in between the bellows that they cannot close up correctly. Try cleaning it and testing it.
If it is broken, you need to replace it or loose the motor...its a ery important piece of the car.

i'll get a thermostat...loose flap or something? I'll check it out when I can...probably when I drop the engine for my rust repair.

If the thermostat fails, it fails with open doors. No thermostat will affect warm up and driving when motor is cold, how much more cold oil wear would you get?

its only important to warm up rich...

if the cable snaps... it failsafes back to full cooling....
the only way it would hurt if the bellws stuck in the cold position. you are not hurting anything by not running one... just lobger warmups.... thats about it......

im one of MANY running without them

replace the coke can you substituted for the warm air elbow. seriously, jack your car up, start it, and see if one of the indiviual components are loose. you'll be able to tell where the rattle is coming from easier. your car must be slow to warm up. esp on cold days.

The coke cans are gone. I found some nice caps that are presently installed. Warm up time 5-7 minutes, not too shabby for a 30 degree day.

oh, I forgot the club site is back up
