Turn signal indicators

Has anyone rewired a later model car to that of an early model car to get individual turn signal indiators?

The early style was wired so that each indicator light (in the tach) had one of the turn signal wires (black/white stripe or black/green stripe) and the blue/white stripe.

As far as I can tell, the flasher relay is the same, but the wiring is different due to the fact that the 1974 and later cars only had the single indicator light in the tach. The 74 wiring diagram shows the indicator light wired to the blue/white stripe and ground.

Hey Andy,

What are you doing on here? You are supposed to be fixing 914club.com......

My 1974 has two lights that both blink when you go left or right.

There is an article in Vol IX of 'Upfixing der Porsche' on page 171 that deals with exactly this issue. If you have a tach with two turn indicator lites, you can rewire the bulb circuits back to the 73 and earlier spec. If you only have one turn indicator
lite, you will need an earlier tach with two bulb sockets as well
as the rewire.
Cheers and have fun!

I changed my 74 tach with a 73 with dual directional lights.

Here is the way James Adams said to do it: The way I did mine years ago was to tap into the Black/White and Black/Green wires that go to the actual signals.

It worked for me. I think John Rogres also has directions for this conversion.

Thanks for your help. I thought about just using the turn signal wires themselves...

I'll check out the Up-Fixin

Actually, I found the article in the 12/92 issue of Pano (I don't have vol 9 upfixin, but I have every PANO issue back to about 1980).

Thanks again for your help, and I was exactly right.
