914 speedo

Recently my 914 odometer stopped working. The speedometer works fine and i thought it might be the gauge. The instrument cluster on my 914 was all rusty so I bought one on ebay that's in great shape, cosmetically. I figured it would take care of the odometer problem, too. However, it didn't. The speedometer works fine but the odometer still does not work. Any suggestions?? Would disconnected the trip odometer do anything?
