Replacing KYBs with Konis OR Bilsteins. Which?

My 76 914 has terrible K(ick) Y(our) B(utt)s front and back. I would like to either replace them with Bilsteins or Konis. Which you you recommend? I use it for 90% street and 10% auto X and Hill Climbs. I plan to add adjustable Weltmeister drop links to the stock F and R sway bars, the new nice strut inserts, 140 lb rear springs, and other than that leave it alone. Thanks for the help.

What kind of struts do you have in the front? I think the strut housing dictates the type(s) of replacement cartridges you can install.

If your struts are right, get the Koni adjustables for front and rear. I've currently got KYB's up front and Koni adjustables in the rear - big mistake. The KYB's are like stone, great for the track and crappy on the road. The Koni's are easily adjustable to give you a nice street ride, and a very firm track setting. They cost more, often a LOT more, but shop around and you can find some good deals. They're worth the extra money.

How do I know if I can use Konis in the front? What should I look for?

Not to cloud the issue, but I bought an entire 911 SC front suspension and brake setup including adjustable Konis for around the same price as a pair of new Koni strut inserts... down the slippery slope I went!

I have a 76 914 and replaced the front with
bilsteins. Wayne at Pelican recommended them
because I was a daily driver. They are fantastic. I'm sure Koni's or Bilsteins would be a great upgrade. I'm sure both will fit a 76. Check with Pelican

Ok, maybe not less than KONIs - the front end cost about $350us. (with one spare rotor)

I just replaced my crusty old (original, probably) Bilsteins with new ones -- sport valved in the front.

Night and day difference -- no regrets...
