Post CV joint condition

I just got in a pair of 911 half shafts that I'll be using in my 914-V8 conversion. As I clean off 23 years of grease and dirt, I was wondering what would be the best way to tell the condition of the CV joints. I plan to dismantle the half shafts, clean out the CV's and regrease them, but is there a quick and dirty test for them? I suspect one of them (it's apart) is bad because of some wear in the outer asmy. Thanks for the input.
