How do i remove inner door handle cover for '71?

Argh, i just spent the last hour trying to remove the inner door handle COVER on my '71 914, but can't seem to remove it.

The great tech article about removing the door panel was great UNTIL it got to the part about removing a screw on the inner door handle cover so that the cover "slides" off. My '71 doesn't have a screw there. None. Zip. Nada. I assume the later models do, but now i'm stuck.

Does anyone know how to remove this thing?!?! It's the chrome plastic valence around the inner door handle. I'm on the verge of almost breaking this thing. :(

I'm sorry if this has been covered in a previous post, but i searched and didn't find it.

Thanks all in advance for your help!
Don.

Don,

You need to carefully remove the black plastic cover from the chrome handle. Use a small flat blade screwdriver and start in one corner and work around until the cover is released. You'll see the screw once this cover is removed. Take you time and you won't damage the cover.

hi Gary,
Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated.

Just to clarify, the outer chrome part will actually separate from the black part in the back? It looks like they're both pretty well connected together.

I'll give it a shot though. At this point, i'll try anything. :) Thanks!
Don.

Yeah Don, they're two seperate pieces. I did the same to my 72 back in April. I scraped the first one not really knowing how to go about doing it. Second one came out fine. Just take you time and you'll be fine.
