Accelerator Cable Problem
 

I having an issue with the accelerator cable. The cable is jumping around in the tunnel and hangs up on the clutch pedal fork bolt. I have tried tightening the cable but it still jumps around and snags. I cant seem to figure it out and could use some help. I had to rip out the pedals due to a broken clutch pedal spring and also replaced the clutch clevis. Not very good access down there as I had a hell of a time getting on a new clevis. I even took out the center console thinking the little access hatch would help..not. Any help on the cable snagging prob would be appreciated.

Double-check your clutch clevis work. That is sometimes the cultrate for the symptoms you described.

Tim. Why would that affect it? I mean its stationary and not moving..If i move the accel pedal the cable twists and instantly snags on the fork bolt. I can see it loop up from below and catch thru the access panel. I was thinking it might be some to do with the ball end perhaps. They should have moved the ball end out another half inch or so..away from the clutch cable. Its kinda lame how they are both in line like that.

Check that the clutch cable and the accel cable are not twisted in the tunnel. I used a small mirror and a flashlight to check the cables in the tunnel when I installed them.

After further autopsy I notice that when you push in the clutch the fork bolt hits the back of the accel ball end (the threaded rod), maybe I should thread that in further? This prob is exasperating..I cant push in the clutch without the throttle going and I cant give it gas without it binding up.

If the clutch clevis is bending it can allow the linkage to rub up against the clutch fork. Check to make sure it's in there properly.

Guys..I fixed it. I took off the shifter and poked a flashlight down in there and placed a mirror up at the top. I could see the cable twisted up on the OTHER side of the tunnel..around the fuel line or something. After unwrapping it I took out all the slack in the cable and it stopped binding on the fork bolt. If the cable stretches one smidge then it jam again which makes me worry. Thanks for everybodys help!
