Anyone have any comments on the "Tornado" dohickies that fit in the intakes? They make some pretty outragous claims (i.e. 24% increase in gas mileage, and 9% boost in HP). No way I'm going to pay $60+ for these things, but I was concidering making a set (4) out of some sheet aluminum I have laying around. Just wondering if I'd be wasting time and materials, or they make a difference.

that you would even ask the question shows the extreme power of marketing.

I first saw them on "Shade Tree Mechanic" on ESPN. Then saw the ads popping up everywhere, they even sell them in some Performance magazines. Then again, if people would pay money for a "Pet Rock", why not a swirly piece of metal!
I guess P.T.Barnum was right!;-) |

Engineers at the car companies would trade their grandmothers for a 2% increase in mileage. So some yahoo with tin snips and a flashy ad making these outrageous claims is VERY hard to believe. However, those doo-dads look as though they'd section an apple into six neat pieces, so maybe they're useful after all.
