This is the picture that got me interested in 914s
It's from a book on the history of the Porsche 911. The 914 in the picture just struck me as being a "true European sports car".

This picture always did it for me, even though I can't tell if that's a man or a woman.

Well, it was the seventies but I'm pretty sure it's a woman. Here's another picture from the photo shoot.

I think it is John Lennon in a rare shot with his glasses off.

This is an easy one for me. I first fell in love car when I saw one on the road by my house, about 10 years ago. This is the picture that put it over the top for me. It is from Excellence, November 2002, page 76.

It's funny what a picture can do. I was always aware of 914s, but for some reason (like, not having seen one for 20 years) I had completely forgotten about them. But once I saw the shot of a green 914 in front of the airplane on Porsche's website, every memory I ever had of 914s came rolling back, like when you smell Play-Doh and you feel like you're in kindergarten again. I had been looking for a 911, but something about that picture told me should be driving a 914.

I saw this body kit and decided to build a V8 teener instead of a Pantera...
![]() edit - hit the wrong button and submitted b4 finishing - I had a 914 and wasn't sure if I wanted to stick with it or get a rough Pantera and go from there. McKinney's car looked pretty sweet IMO and that was it. As for the silver car from Excellence - I emailed the owner a little while back and found he had just sold it and moved to Australia (IIRC). He was really nice tho' - I have that issue still and the car was for sale in the back. I emailed as he was within the South Bay area and I wanted to check it out (not buy it but dig for ideas and drool over the brakes).

I don't necessarily believe that guy tho', but didn't call him out on it. Have you guys seen Roger's car????? That guy's was definitely nice, but Roger was 1800lbs with 350hp and well designed and the 1:23 was a record at the time for such a car. So, if he really ran that kind of time - yeah - that car would be fun to drive! I wonder who bought it? I haven't seen it at all at any SoCal events... Here is Roger's beast and what really inspired me to go ape***** with my car (I met Chuck McKinney, he introduced me to Roger and I saw his car way back when it was still being put together in his garage - when I bought my body kit from him) The first incarnation Latest incarnation He said the wing is the only way to get to 155mph in T8, so a wing it is for mine!
