Trunk latch will not release

The trunk latch guide pin will not release. I closed thr trunk and when I push the button you can here it release but the lid will not open, I can move it about a half an inch up but it wont relaese. I have been thining about it and have concluded that if I remove the four bolts that hold trunk on that I will be able to reach in with a long (36 inch extenion) and undo the latch and remove the trunk. I am open to any ideas on how to get it to release without removing trunk lid. Steve

That's how it's done, Steve. Though some people just start cutting holes in the car... Depending on how far up you can move it, you might be able to get something in to where you can push the catch. Or maybe not.

If you do go in from the front, you can also push out one of the latch cups from the engine bay so you have room to shine a flashlight in. That can at least help you to see what you're doing. When you lift up on the front of the deck lid, be really really careful not to bend the lid. It's evidently pretty easy to do.

Steve - try pushing on the release REALLY hard (don't dent anything tho'). When my release broke I was able to get in this way and I have instructed others to do this as well. It has worked almost every time.
Good Luck
