Installing (not) heater valve cable
 

I went to install the heater (flapper) boxes cable today. I was successful in getting the right side thru the tube to the engine compartment but try as I might I could not get the left one thru - this one makes a pretty sharp turn where it comes thru the firewall and I believe that is where it is getting stuck - I tried probably at least 101 times for an hour to push it thru and used grease etc but no luck. I took a coat hanger wire and ran it thru from the back to clear out any obstruction and it goes in okay from the rear (snicker, snicker).

Any one got any tips? I really would like to use the old cable as my budget is limited and don't want to purchase a new one if I don't have to. There are no kinks in it.

I've never changed the heater cables, but this reminds me of a problem that has been discussed on the clutch acble. The cable end is swaged onto the cable, and sometimes the flow pushes out so far that it is too wide to fit through the bends in the tube. If so, some judicious grinding of the swaging flash will reduce the diameter enough to allow it to be installed.
