Post 4 cylender compared to a 6

I Was wondering how big a 914/4 engine needs to be made to be equal in size or just a little bigger than a 914/6 engine. I am going to build up the old 4 instead of doing the 6 conversion

Well it sort of depends on what you really mean. The '73-'76 4-cylinder 2.0 engine has the same displacement as the original 6-cylinder motor (also 2.0 liter). However, the horse power and the performance curve for the -6 runs higher, so the difference is very noticeable. For the equivalent "seat-of-your-pants" feel, maybe someone who has a "Big 4" can give you some direction here.

Cool

A mildly built 2.1 (96mmp&c)with webcam,P&P,tweaked injection, fully balanced, 8.5/1cr should get you close.
120h.p.
130lbs torque.
I'ts a shame we have to do so much to compete to a six. But the motors are much cheaper to hypo compared to a six.

A 2.3 (2270) will smoke most 6 cylinder beast of equal or slightly larger size. The torque is so great that breaking traction beccomes a problem.

The cost is just about the same if both are done right. By that I mean the big 4 has to be dry sumped and have a front oil cooler and will probably be 2.5l or bigger to out run a 2.2l six. A 3l six conversion in San Diego is about 10 to 12 thousand including the engine. To build my 2.8l four it cost about $6000 and a big part of that is the head work and other machining on the four and the six I mentioned is relativly stock. I think I do have more torque out of corners and can do pretty well till I get to 120MPH or so.
