Details on carpeted interior rear firewall?
I want to install some aftermarket seats so the backpad needs to be removed. Does anyone have details on attaching carpet to the rear of the cabin like was done in the 914-6 GT?
I found a few threads and pics of real GTs but I was wondering about the install details. Glue? Screw? Also, does anyone have suggestions on where to get matching carpet by the yard? |

I did see John Roger's tech article with the pic of the carpeted firewall.

Here's a pic of a real 914-6 GT interior carpet kit. I assume the big square piece is for the firewall. I guess it is a cut to fit deal??

BTW, when I'm done I'm going to have some high grade full leather sport seats with nice bolsters for only $500-600 installed.
I've sourced them from another car but I'm not going to reveal the details until they are installed. I think this is going to become a popular upgrade. :-) Dimensionally these seats are very close to a 914 stock seat. I don't think they will have the height problems that 911 seats have in a 914. Also, it appears that they will be a simple bolt on to 914 brackets with 4 easy to make custom brackets. |

Any competent carpet layer should be able to do what you want. Years ago I did a 70's Chevy van with wall to ceiling shag. It was glue down.
The hardest part of the job is finding the carpet (go to local carpet store and start looking at sample books)

sorry I've never pulled a new car apart so I have no idea what they use....older ones, rubber base carpet over a felt type pad.....hard to describe....

Mostly I want something that matches the 914 and looks good. I found some inexpensive by the yard stuff at Autos International.
http://www.autosintl.com/ The Domestic Loop in charcoal looks pretty close. The 914-6GT carpet looks more like a felt. |

order a sample (usually a 3" X 4" piece) and you will see what I mean by the backing.....then take it to your local carpet store and see what they have...
