Painting front trunk

I am looking at repainting the front trunk. I have removed the headlights and motors. What do you do with the piece for wiring that plugs into the headlights? The hole in the back of the headlight bucket looks too small for the plastic headlight wire plug to pass thru it.
What have others done when repainting; just tape it off and push it out of the way or cut the wires and repair later?
I appreciate the advice.

Do not cut the wires. Never ever ever cut the wires to remove them, unless you are throwing that wiring away!

You can de-pin the connectors and get the wires out that way, but the more common procedure is to tape it off and push it out of the way.

(PS: Don't cut the wires!!)

Dave: Thanks for the advice. I will not cut the wires!!!! I tried to push the wires out of the plastic connector. They are really in there. Guess the tape up and move is the easiest to do. thanks again.

You de-pin the connectors by using a special tool. It looks a lot like a screwdriver with a really, really thin blade. You push the blade into the notch on the top of the slot where the pins go, compressing the barb that holds them in the connector body. Then you can pull them out the back side of the connector.
