Question Brake pad "spreader" springs

I'm trying to finish up my front brake job, and both of the "+" shaped pad spreader springs are rusted completely through. I've tried to order them through PP, but I'm being told that they are NLA.

My obvious question is ---- do I really need these things? I'm not really looking forward to trying to track down servicable used ones.

Would sure appreciate any guidance.

Thanks in advance,
Howard Henneman

Yes, I'd use them to prevent the pads from flopping around. Try a salvage yard and if they have no 914s a VW 411 might also still have the front calipers installed. Good luck

Several years ago, I ordered these spreaders thru the local VW Dealership using the part number 311 615 269. The cost was not too bad.

Guys, thanks for the advice. I'll try to get them from a local VW dealer. If that doesn't work, I guess that I'll try to re-use the old ones ------ better than nothing.

Howard
