Timing & Petronix Help

I'm currently trying to time my carbed 1.7. I'm still using the stock dist but can't get it even to stay started for a second, the best that I can get is the usual turnover. I've found TDC but it doesn't help, would the petronix have failed? How do you know when the petronix has crapped out?

Funny that your message came up. I just yanked my pertronix and am questioning it at this very point. My situation was entirely different however. My engine was dying under load. Put points in, went away.

Are you getting a spark at all? Turn it over and have the timing light in the car with you. At least that will tell u if you are getting "a" spark..its a start. If you are getting a spark make sure it is the right spark for the right cylinder. I know this is a pretty simple reply.
