So I will brag on this list.
Since owning my 914 I have been looking into this list. My car seemed to drive okay with some small quirks. I blamed it on its age. But I looked deeper and deeper into these posts and went back to my car to check things out. First off I found a ton of things wrong on the car from the PO. The car would get too hot, not idle, run rich, and not start at all when hot (Starter not working and having trouble geting it to start once the starter was working.) Though the car ran fine at first and only do these problem when hot. So on tips off this list I did some work. It seems my Thermostat Bellows was shot and the PO wired the flaps closed. They would never open. The starter was wired with a relay to take power away. The air control box was taken apart and put back together with silicon. As well all of the Vacume hoses were just pressure fit and had no clamp. The Head Temp sensore wire was disconected, and the cold start valve and Themositch were wired wrong. After Getting everything back together and sorted out. A new Air box, Starter Hot Relay setup, ground wires, clamps on all hoses, new plugs, plug wires and fixing the thermosts bellows... The car runs like a dream. I can't get it hotter than 230 today (It's 101 outside) I ran around all over and stoped alot, went into heavy traffic, tried to make it hot, hot, hot. It idles perfect at all times even at it's hottest (Never did that before), starts everytime on the first try, starter is perfect, and it runs much less rich and has more power. I owe it all to this list. I would have never known to look at these areas I had problems or to even susspect some of the places that needed the most attention. If not for you guys my engine would be a burnt up pile of aluminum on the side of the road in the middle of the desert. Wild what some small things can do to make these engines run right. And did I mention I have that dreaded 1975 L-Jet Injection! Too Cool! Thanks everyone!

I am sure I didn't contribute a thing, but it's nice to hear about sucess. Glad you are enjoying the car.
BTW, my strong suit is body work and painting (and being sarcastic), so I help out where I can. |

Nice post Christopher. There are dozens of others of us out here who have benefited in the same way. Thanks for taking the time to remind everybody of the value of this board.

I agree! If this board were around when I bought my first 'teener I would still have it (still miss that darn thing). I seem to learn something new every day. It's invaluable really. Support the board, buy your stuff at Pelican when you can!
One question... how the heck do you get an L-Jet to idle perfectly? OK, OK, I'll post that separately. ---Chris H. |

I second Chris, I miss my first teener that was sold out of ignorance and lack of support. Thanks to all.
