Well, it looks like the cable for the front trunk on the '70 914-6 either finally broke, or came loose from the release. Either way, it will not open the conventional way. I know it's common to have problems with the rear trunk - anyone ever have this happen wit the FRONT? How do I get into the trunk release it. Sooner or later I'm going to have to get some gas! Thanks in advance for your help, guys (and gals)!

Check the Haynes manual. I don’t have it in front of me, but I believe they cover the procedure of removing the front bumper to gain access to the manual latch release.
Not the most fun way to spend an afternoon .

Tim is correct. Remove the bumper. You will find a small hole in the center by the latch. Insert a very small blade screwdriver at an angle toward the passenger side with the end of the screwdriver out towards the drivers side.
Then pop the latch by wedging the screwdriver toward the drivers side. -Rich |

Thanks for the help, guys. I was hoping there was an easier way other than removing the bumper from the car. Guess I just need to suck it up, and do it. Thanks again!

Don't worry,...be happy!
Front bumper removal is only 4 bolts (from the wheel wells). Opening the front trunk is probably a 20 minute job max. |

Hey, you've got it relatively easy -- at least you have the 4-bolt lightweight early bumpers! Still a PITA little problem though.
Good luck, Chris C. |
