Post 914-6 vs 911 Oil filter

I just obtained a 914-6 with a 84 Carrera motor. The oil filter used was the one specifed for the 914-6.(Mahle 061) It is differnt than the one specified for an 84 911 motor.(Mahle 054) Does anybody know why there is a difference??? And is it OK to use the later model filter??

Thanks,
Ken

First of all, you have to post a picture of your car, then we can answer your question. Plus any details like exhaust, cams, color, and other mods.

I also have a Carrera motor in my car. We need to know if you have an aftermarket or stock oil tank.

Do not have a picture. The Tank is from a 914-6 Sportomatic of all things. So it is a a tank of the proper vintage. When I look in the filter it looks like the 061 does not have a bypass.

I am not sure why the tank consruction would effect the filter.

Far as I know...there are two different filters. The difference is the threaded sleeve size on the spin on filter.
