engine upgrades-2nd gear syncros

I have my 2.0 stripped down to the long block. What are some upgrades/improvements one could make without splitting the case? Also, I think know would be a good time to replace my 2nd gear sync as they tended to crunch when pushed. I have the replace 1st gear article. Anything on 2nd gear?

I would actually recommed, "splitting the case"

Many guys are afraid of going into the depths of the engine, but it needs to be done. Adding performance to an engine that is used to worn, stock parts, is a good way to blow parts to mars...lol

EVERY time I hjave ever had a job come back, or not be 100% it was when we did a top end rebuild or patch up, not any more..

The bottom end of the engine is actually simpler than the top end...In a correctly built engine, the top end is just as, if not more difficult to "get right"

Tear it down all the way, and make a cam change...you will be happy.

I agree with Jake on doing the complete engine. A good oil passage cleaning will make the engine feel really great! As for the transmission, I'd do a full rebuild on it too, since if the syncros are going then the bearings have probably had some metal in them and the seals could use a replacement too. Good luck.
