1970 pasanger footwell?
Does anyone know if the foot-well in a 1970 914 is the same as a 73 and later? I had a fiberglass speaker box made for my 73 that is the exact replica of the foam piece that goes in the foot-well of a 73 or later. My 1970 does not have the foam piece in the car, but i am wondering if the contour is still there, just no foam piece? Can i pull the carpet up in the foot-well, and put the box in there with the carpet back over it then it would resemble the interior of a 73 and later? I don't want to rip the carpet up if someone already knows the answer! Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes the foam piece is the same. I have a foam piece in my 70. Well actually I took it out and it's for sale.

foam piece
actually the foam piece is different,, the 70-72 is smaller than the 73 and up the 73 and up is about 2 inch thicker ( cabin side) than the early one, the metal behind is exactly the same so they would fit ,, but when you order the carpet set it will not you need to match the carpet set to the foam pieces ,, so either find a early one or cut to late to fit,,

Now that's the info I was looking for. I just need to make sure the contour of the car on the interior is the same so the box will fit, then I can work on the details for the carpet. So what you are saying is that the foam on the earlier cars just isn't as thick so it doesn't fill up the passengers foot area as much right?

that is exaclty it ,, by about 2 inch,, even the angle inside the babin is the same , so it has to be cut so that the removed piece is the same thinkness

Thanks. I should be able to peal up the carpet, pull out the foam, put in the box and then work on the carpet. Actually the carpet should still fit, but the floor mat will be long and will have to run up on the box?

foam
the carpet piece that goes on the foam woudl end up being different as the suface will be different and the floor mat too, but you can cut eh floor mat easy enough,, and sometime the piece covering the foam might be big enough to cover it ,, they usually have a bit of extra on the sode so that they cover each other
