Back on the road after 2 years
I just got my 914 back from having the engine rebuilt, it was off the road for 2 years (engine tired, didn't renew the registration, and didn't have time to deal with it). The rebuild was a slow process, it took about 7 months, I had a number of other things dealt with and my mechanic (more on him later) just was very busy with other cars. The rebuild was essentially stock, Euro pistons, stock cam, stock D-Jet.
So far, so good. Good performance, good idle stability, very smooth running. I intend to do a full manifold vacuum characterization of the engine and put the data up on my site. It should help other owners determine if their engine mechanical condition is in good shape so that the D-Jet can be expected to work properly. Bad news is that my mechanic, Jack Doverspike, of Stuttgart Southwest (Phoenix), is in the hospital, looks like he needs a quadruple bypass. He's a great guy, I'm sure everyone here in Phoenix who knows Jack will being wishing him best of luck. I'll post some photos and data when I get the time. |

Only 2 years? You guys are a lot faster than me!! :-}
I actually drove mine the other day though, It was fun except I got 2 flat tires in a span of about 5 miles. Some Nimrod put the wrong kind of balance weights on the wheels.
