I've got the wrong ECU for my year...Problem?

I've got a 1970 914-4 1.7...very early car, VIN #4702901167, and I am trying to get the FI system restored. I've just installed a rebuild MPS and a new CHT sensor and still having problems. While researching on Brad Anders' D-Jet webpage I discovered that I have the wrong ECU on my car.

I am supposed to have ECU #0-280-000-007 and I currently have 0-280-000-037 which belongs on a '73 914 1.7 or 2.0. The 037 has the adjuster on the top and, new info to me, the '70 version had no adjustment knob. I'm thinking this is a significant issue.

Also noticed that 0-280-000-015 is for 71-72 cars...will this one work on my car? Does it have an adjustment knob, as well?

Any thoughts?

Well, if Brad weighs in that is the final word, but since the other parts, like MPS's, injectors and sensors are similar or the same, I think you are fine. The knob is only for Idle mixture adjustment, nothing else.

What kind of problems are you having?

I looked some some on Brad's site...

Failure Modes
Dead: Nothing works. Usually due to major component failure.
Mismatched: Wrong ECU for the engine and/or FI sensors. Causes various idle and drivability problems.
Notes: The ECU is reliable and rarely faulty. Mismatched ECU's are more of an issue (more on this below, see the cylinder head temperature sensor and manifold pressure sensor entries) . Even mismatched, ECU's still often work OK, but may cause some drivability problems.

This is straight from Brad's website..."Mismatched ECUs are more of an issue"

I need to find the correct ECU for my car, then continue to diagnose the problem.

I also have an ECU cross-reference, I think the 037 works fine in any 1.7. It has a more refined speed mixture control than the earlier ECU's, and you can adjust the idle mixture. I wouldn't change it.
