![]() This is a picture of my '74 2.0 (stock fenders) with 7x17 993 Cup wheels (fronts w/ 55 mm offset) with 205/50/17's. Stock fenders. The trick is some specially made billet CNC machined 4 to 5 lug adapters that I made just for myself. |

Can you post that pic again please. I can't seem to see it on either of my browsers. Was there any fender rolling involved, any additional spacers needed? Thanks.

How thick are your 4-5 lug adapters?
Could one subtract the thickness from the ET (or add it) and end up with proper fit and no adapters (after the normal 5 lug conversion) when using aftermarket wheels with any ET? Steve [This message has been edited by vw@micron.net (edited 06-12-2001).] |

i too, would like to see the picture, and fitment..
one word of caution though, most, if not all, sanctioned bodies will not allow you to do any sort of "racing" with adapters... spacers, yes.. adapters, no.. unfortunately, they probably have good reason to impose such a rule.. if your intent is for regular street driving though, i would guess the adapter plate would hold up. Sorry about the picture. I think it is too large.
There was no modification to the fenders. The adapters are exactly 3/4" thick. The top of the standard lug (which holds them on) had to be cut off by 7/64". There is only about 5/16" to 3/8" clearance on both inside and outside. With the help of a rear swaybar, there is very little movement in the rear arms, so they don't rub. But it is close! After carefully measuring the wheel house, I determined that the 8 3/4" opening would accept this wheel and tire, but the 55 mm offset wheel was critical to the fit! |

Oh, and by the way, they (the PCOA) can require anything they f--king want... but these adapters have screwed in (welded in the back) studs, are CNC machined (yes, they're hub centric!) of billet 1021 CRS, and are stronger than the original hubs! But of course, they are the only people in America who know s--t about anything anyway! Right? That's why the "Big Shots" look down on the 914 crowd. Enough already!

Wow, where did that come from? He was just making a point, and you slam him.
in case you haven't noticed, a very large portion of the people who post here are into racing of one kind of another. I think he was refering to the cheap off the shelf bug type adapters that are so common. You could have just explained that yours are different, and left the attitude somewhere else. ------------------ Gerald Gore II (Sam) 73 914 350 small block |
