My 76 2.0 fan has a few blades missing. Question: Can I remove it from the car without dropping the engine??? Also after reconnecting my smog pump and lower pulley I noticed that the oil temp has risen dramatically. Would this be related to restoring the emissions setup or more mechanically related to the pulley/pump which is connected to the fan.

I do beleve you must drop the engine down. if you can remove the fan with the engine in i imagine it might be more of a headach to do than dropping the engine

Yes, it is possible to remove the fan from the engine with it still in the car. Basically, you have to undo the lower sheet metal on the engine right next to the firewall, then undo the alternator belt, then you can reach the bolt to undo it. It really isn't all that hard, just time consuming.
Reconnecting the smog pump stuff will cause your engine to run at a higher temp, yes. Paul |

Thanks guys. I believe I am going to replace the fan due to the increased operating temp. resulting from the smog crap. There are 4 blades missing in total. Why would air injection and 1 pulley run up the temp? I have the non-egr/non-catalyst model.

I'm not sure of the mechanism of the smog pump increase in temp (more work?), but the higher temp allows for more complete combusion and therefore less hydrocarbon emissions.
