2.2 914-6 motor rebuild
Hello all,
I need a little help. I am posting this here on the 914-914-6 site as well as the 911 engine rebuilding site. I finished my BMW 318IS motor rebuild (runs like new) Now on to finish my 914-6 conversion with a 1971 2.2 911 T motor with webers. I have read all about the Motormiester thing so (forget them) I need good advise for pistons, I have plenty of good used cylinders but not enough pistons in std or oversized for a complete set. I need a good source for the pistons...JE etc?? How big can I bore it?? The new Mahle stuff for 2-2500K is not going to happen sorry I know I can spend way less. Also I need good advice on cam selection... I want to use the 2.2 L cause I already have it!! I bought it complete with all accessories and weber carbs from a guy upgrading about 2 years ago. Found the car to use in Nov. 06. The car is a 72 914 with a complete welded in cage front to rear, bumper to bumper, 911 turbo front brakes and 911 front end plus rear brakes, full chassis stiffening kit, boxed control arms, bilsteins, full fiberglass wide body kit, vintage Gotti 10" and 8" wheels (I restored them) and no rust it was so cheap I couldn't pass it up. Still needs lots of work, I have a side shifter trans with the linkage too. I did a 914-6 conversion in 97, bought a 2.7 from a guy in Phoenix, I used webers then also. I want to build the motor myself this time. I had problems with low oil pressure in the one I bought "rebuilt" for 3K!! I am an excellent mechanic and I know the 911 motors are a little more involved but I am sure I can handle it. Your advice is appreciated..Thanks!! clarkeph San Diego, CA 72 Porsche 914-6 track car - eventually 93 BMW 318IS daily driver. 72 LT1 corvette convertable (frame off restored) 97 Dodge 2500 CC CTD 4x towmaster. 74 Ford Bronco off road beast yeah I am a car nut...... Do it yourself.
The S cam is the obvious place to start. You can just use all of the S specs. Check out Wayne's Book. It has a chart with all the common crank and piston sizes. It shows cam choice, induction, and suspected output.
