Front strut housing driving me crazy

About a year and a half ago I bought strut housings for my 70 914. I bought the housings from a 72 911T, or so I thought. I have finally gotten around to installing them but I don't have the hub clamp nut. At first I forgot what year they where so I ordered the wrong nut. Now I have ordered the nut for the 72 911T and it doesn't fit. I actually destroyed one trying to make it fit. What is going on? It appears that the diameter of the nut is a little too small. The threads on the strut housing are in perfect condition, and so were the nuts. The part number that I got for the clamp nut is, 914-341-671-00. Does it matter if the 911 it a regular 911 or a 911T? Could it be from a 73 911? Are they different? The bolt holes for the caliper measure 3 inches from center to center. I was told that some measure different from different years.

Please help me before I throw these housing in the trash!

That is the right part number for the 911/912/914/6 65-69 strut and should fit so check the part number on the strut housing as maybe the 72 strut is different.

There are 2 different nuts.

Sound like you have a '74-up strut.

914 341 673 00 is the larger nut.

Bleyseng,

I forgot that prosche put the part number on the strut housing. I just checked the part number (911 341 079 04) and this housing fits 74-77 911, not 72 like I was told.

Ken,

I thought I already tried that nut, but I must not have. I have a set uf nuts with really course threads which don't work, and a set of nuts that are a little too small. Does 914 341 673 00 have fine threads on it?

Thanks guys.

As I remember the Pitch is almost the same, if not the same, = "fine", just the diameter changes.

Yeah Ken, I was wrong. I was looking at the clamp nut for the 914, it has course threads. The other clamp nut that I have is fine threads but way too big, it is for a 944 which I thought was the same as the 911 for that year, obviously not, I think it is for a newer 911, around 85.
