Question What's this wire??

I have a wire that I cannot identify - even from the schematic. Next to the shifter rod - where it exists the firewall, there is a small bundle with two wires. One (red) goes off to the starter relay (which my schematics don't show), and the other (blue or black) goes up through the inner shelf of the fire wall & over toward the battery, but I have no idea where it went. It has a terminal on the end, but this was completely taped over when I took the engine out.

The car has AC and all is there except the compressor/clutch assy. My first thought was that this lead was for the compressor.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I'd say that's exactly what those wires are for. Remember that a/c was installed at the dealerships, not the factory. So the factory schematic won't show the wiring for the a/c. And even though the kits were the same, it seems no two conversions to a/c are alike.

Thanks for the reassurance. I lucked out and came across a vary simple schematic of the AC system, and it indicates that there are two leads that come from the cockpit - one to the condensor fan (which is in the front truck), and one to the magnetic clutch (in the engine bay). So I guess thats what its for.

Thanks for letting me bounce this around.

Regards,

Gerard
