Question brakes won't bleed

I've started to bleed my brakes and I'm running into problems with these too. I started at the right rear, it bled fine. I went to the left rear and nothing will come out. I'm using a vaccuum bleeder. any ideas why no fluid will come out of this line. the car has been sitting for almost 10 years, this could have something to do with it. Would my master cylinder or proportioning valve be stuck open or something like that. has anyone ever seen this problem before??

You did not say if you have replaced anything like Brake lines or caliper rebuild.

Assuming you did not I would remove the bleeder screw and check the bottom of it
if the car has been sitting that long it can rust over not allowing fluid out. If the rubber brake lines have not been replaced the insides can swell shut...

Hello,
You did not mention if you had someone pumping the brakes while bleeding the rears. I also use the vaccum method and my wife pumps the brakes so that the fluid moves easier through the proportioning valve. I just followed the tip from the tech article on bleeding the brakes.

Best of luck

Alex

Car sitting for 10 years!!! Well you are talking to the right person now ;-)

Replace the rubber lines all around the car.

The lines swell and completly close the inner line. It happens faster when the line has air in it from sitting around.

So even if you can bleed them you are working with restricted lines. MAKE SURE YOUR REPLACE THEM.

I cut mine in half to verify it and I could not even see any light through a cross section of the line.

Best of luck,
Rich Hilgersom
