rust

Wahoo! I got my engine ot. Thanks to evryone who offered suggestions. But now that I have it out I've discovered several new issues. One of tese is some rust below the battery tray that I hadn't discovered before. Its not bad enough that I feel that I need to replace any metal. I was planning to just grind/sand out the loose rust and then spray some of the rust encapsalating paints that I've heard about recently. What are people's opinions of these products? Any brands that any one would recommend. Do they really work as advertised?

I have used "POR-15"and "Zero RUST". Both products seem to be working well. Zero Rust is a little cheeper the Por-15.

Best of luck

My personal favorite is POR 15. I've used it all over the bottom of my '73, the stuff is tough as nails. It isn't cheap, but a little goes a very long way. I coated both rear swing arms, axles, brake covers, stub axles and every single nut and bolt associated, with less than 1/2 pint (brush applied). Just make sure the parts are prep'ed right before you slather it on.

'73 2.0L (Oh the glee to be "rust free"!)

I’m a proponent of POR-15 as well. I would say it “goes on” as advertised. I’ll know for sure how well it works on the metal in several years.

For the reasonable price of their sample/starter kit you can decide for yourself.
