Question Strut Tower Braces

I have a buddy with a 911 and he has a strut tower brace installed to stiffen up the front end, etc... I notice that alot of other cars i.e. mustangs use these to increase performance. I haven't seen any of these avialable for the 914, I am looking in the wrong places or are they just not available??

Thanks
Tom

Stable Energies in NJ, (201) 773-3177, used to offer one for $219. But my brochure was from 1995. Don't know if they are still around. I didn't buy one so I can't tell you if it's any good.

they're available from stable energy, as stated above, but they're basically useless.. the above mentioned cars that use the bars tend to flex at those points.. the 914, however, conviniently has firewalls close to both strut towers, so there's minimal flex, unless you've got some serious structural rust..

buy it if it makes you happy, but don't expect the car to gain too much from it..

my $0.02

I think the only thing that will significantly stiffen up the car is a rollcage. General consensus seems to be that simple strut braces are "worthless" on the 914.

I agree, strut braces are not needed on the 914. In the front there is one basically built in already (just in front of the gas tank) and the rear is also pretty stable. The roll cage, Brad Mayeur's longitudinal supports, and the 10-piece chassis kit are the ways to go.

The 914/6 GT has a strut brace, but only because the aforementioned bulkhead was removed in that car to permit the larger fuel tank. I've added the GT chassis kit, longitudinal reinforcements, no cage (yet) but won't bother with a strut brace.
