what is the cost of properly rebuilding a 2.0 - to include new injectors - I remember seeing alan bishop adv. for 2700 or so a while back on dginet - however I got a recent quote of 4k w/out injectors -

I checked with a few mechanics in Texas and Florida each. All were around 2.5-4k. The big range was mainly due to whether they included new heads, what kind they would be, and what mods they would do to the heads.

What made me nervous is that I noticed a lot of inconsistencies between the mechanics that didn't work on these engines regularly.. I ended up choosing me as my mechanic though bc I was up to the challenge and went pretty much the stock route. If I had to choose someone next time, especially going non-stock, I would go to someone where this work is their bread-and-butter...

Oh, regardless of who rebuilds the engine, do yourself a favor and buy Tom Wilson's rebuild book- How to Rebuild Your Volkswagen Air-Cooled Engine. it will help you understand the why and how your engine works which will help you to maintain your 914 even if you dont do the rebuild yourself.
