There is a conversion tech article in the 914 section. Most helpful.
Depends on the use of your 914. Is it going to be a track car, autocross car, or a street car. I recommend installing a 911 front end especially from a 76 to 89. For the rear, there are many options, each with their advantages and disadvantages. |

Press in studs are the only way to go. On the front, if you drill and press, you may have use a 1/4 inch spacer as the 911 standard lenght stud and nut will bottom out.
The best way is to swap in a SC front end. You get better brakes and less hassle. Be advised that the hub swap in the rear will require new bearings. The removal technique is a hammer and a large socket on an extension. Install on the bearing....pop it in the freezer over night and slide it in. GPR has a exchange on five lug drilled hubs and you get studs and bearings from them as well. You can use 914/6 rear rotors....some people have reported that you need to deburr the inside of the caliper as the rotors are slightly larger in diameter. Good Luck. |

It's true about the 914/6 rear rotors: I had a local machine shop cut 1.5MM off the diameter.
Although not necessarily cheaper (unless your machine shop happens to works for free), it's easier than fussing with the calipers, especially if they're still connected! I'm sure you've read the "bleeding" hassles you can (and eventually will) encounter. |
