I've been tempted to get this one, but I've been waiting to see a review of it first.

The Brian Long book, PORSCHE 914 & 914-6 "The Definitive History of the Road & Competition Cars" is a very good book.

I like george Hussey's 101 tips. I think the Bentley manual is better than the Hanes.

What Bentley manual? I haven't seen one for the 914 yet, but I would be thrilled to find one!!!

"Best books" for what purpose? Repair? History? Driving? Enjoyment?

My favorites for repair:
Haynes
Tom Wilson's "How to Rebuild Your Volkswagen Air-Cooled Engine"
(For a really really basic introduction to working on car stuff) John Muir's "Idiot Book"
If available, the factory manual is a decent supplement to the above, but the Haynes manual has about 85% of the words and pictures.

Some great leads...
I am going to order a few right away. And looking for the george Hussey's 101 tips

"Best books" for what purpose? Repair? History? Driving? Enjoyment?
That would be a tough question to answer. So I think my answer would be Yes to all of the above.
That is how my 911 Library started But then again I have aways been a book geek.
Any chance Wayne would do a 914 101 Project Book?

Several others to consider are:

Porsche 914/914-6 Technical Specifications (available as a reprint)

You did not say if you have carbs or fuel injection but there are two must have books in either case:

Haynes Techbook: Weber Carburetor Manual ISBN 156392157X

Robert Bently Bosch Fuel Injection & Engine Management
ISBN 0837603005

Yes, I too would like to see a copy of this so-called "Bentley 914 Manual."

'Bout as scarce as the Loch Ness creature, me thinks ...

I like George Hussey's book. Have Haynes, nice to keep in car, shop manual on disc(if you want to buy the actual shop manual, I know where complete copy happens to be) I want the bosch fuel injection manual, is it any good?

Bentley makes a damn fine manual, for VW Bugs, Ghias, now VW/Porsche that I know of...

OOPS! My bad.
Your right there is no Bently's for the 914. The publicaton I like better than the Hanes is CLYMER PUBLICATION

I have the Fuel injection on my car but have yet to deciede whether to keep it or not. But condidering how old this system is I am for sure going to pick up the Robert Bently Bosch Fuel Injection & Engine Management.
Clymer Publications.. That looks good too.
Thanks. Library growing....

How could we not mention the Up-Fixen series? Lots of period info there, almost like opening a time capsule. And of course, there's Excellence was Expected.

"Caught By Camera" is a nice picture book. Not a ton of info, but some very nice pics.

The "Lash International" manual is a re-printing of the Clymer.

Resurrecting this thread from long ago, is there anything out there generally comparable to Wayne Dempsey's series of "101 Projects For Your xxxxxxxxx"?
Not necessarily looking for instructions on maintaining or restoring, but instead on how to "enhance" the 914 beyond what the factory had intended the car to be for the typical owner - especially in the suspension/handling area.
