Thinking of selling my 914-6 project

Do to family, work, yada, yada - you know the story... I am thinking of selling my '73 914-6 project.

- 84SC front suspension & brakes
- Box trailing arms
- Tangerine welded roll cage
- Fuchs with good tires
- Rebuilt, zero miles 2.7 engine
- Weber carbs
- Peterson remote oil tank
- Everything is installed except the engine & tranny.
- Have all engine sheet metal & motor mounts
- MSD ignition
- Body needs paint but little or no rust issues
- Interior is "spartan" ie. needs new interior

Could probably be on the road within a few good days of work, unfortunately, I don't have the time.

$8,000 - offers. Plenty of pics available.

Sounds like a great deal for someone.

It'll sell fast.

Some pics. Hood, lights, doors, engine lid all work fine. Surface rust on roll bar (not painted yet), floors and trunk floor - no holes. Door gaps are pretty good. Mechanical very good, suspension very good, engine (zero miles) all updates, stock tranny. If it stops snowing soon I'll roll it out of the garage and get better pics.

$8000 seems a bit pricey for what you are offering. Considering you can pick up a 911 in simlar condition (dissasembled) for the same price.

Hell - you could have picked up my 911 for that. Parts alone this is worth more than 8K

I disagree. I've started to notice a number of Average to Good 914-6 conversions lately going for more $ than similar mid-70's 911s.... I don't think this is a bad price at all considering it could probably sell for $12K+ if finished a little more.

Just my $.02, but I've really been watchin the market lately.

I've watched a few as well and you can get a fully assembled 914 2.0 litre in descent condition for about $8000. My point is that a car unassembled is nothing but parts and car pricing is based on a fully assembled car. Granted he has a new engine, however a 914 is no where near the car a 911 is. Not by any means. If he assembled the car, he could potentially get over $8000, maybe $10K max. But it will take someone who is interested in putting it back together to pay that price. It's all I'm saying.

Thats pretty stupid, apparently you've not been in a nicely setup 914.
I wouldn't trade my car for one and i've had both.

Shhh, don't pass it around too much. It's comments like this that keep driving up the prices of the 914s (past 911s of the same vintage I might add).

D

FWIW, I had a guy who wanted to trade me his 74 911 for my 74 914-6 conversion last year, and give me money on top of the deal. He MUST have been dillusional or something....

It's an apple to oranges comparison. Other than similar engines the 914 & 911 are two different animals. So to say one is better than the other is pretty subjective. I just sold my 911 for 8K. It was a very nice 911 (no rust or issues). The 914-6 in similar condition would be around 15K. Engine will be going in the car in the next couple of weeks...

You guys are smoking!...have you stopped to take a look at 914's for sale?? You will not find one for over $10K, race car or otherwise. But if you want to live in that fantasy world....I got a prime piece of cyber space I'd sell you for cheap cheap.

And if anyone was going to trade you a 911 for a 914....obviously he is going to trade you a POS 911 for the 914.

All I can say is show me more than one or two examples of a 914 over $12K that has actually sold. No way.

If you sold if for 8K, it wasn't that nice.

For a mid-year 911 that's approaching top dollar. Any more above that you're into SC's with the more desirable 3.0 engine. So yeah, it was a very nice mid-year car. There's a hell of a lot more 911's for sale than 914-6's. So you can easily pick up a nice 911 for less $$$.

Ummm...no way. I could get at least $13K for mine on a bad day. I've been offered over $15K. Mid year, excellent condition. So no $8000 is not top dollar. $8K means that it needs at least $10K worth of work.

Hey Emu, hat kind of 914 do you drive? Or you just hangin on this board for something to do?

Seriously, maybe all of the ads or smoke and mirrors, but just watch the classifieds section of this board and do your own comparison. Go out to one of the 914 (Club or World) websites, and look at those boards. Yes, there are cars selling for these prices. How much for my POS 914-6 based on this pic? Oh by the way, it will get a nice RS spec 2.7 late this year or early next as well, and there ain't no rust.
