After reading some of the posts in the carb vs. FI thread, my question now is: on a car with carbs, what exactly does the relay board do? I have been having "phantom" electrical/ staring problems, and I kinda think it might be in the relay board. Do these things or the relays on them go bad ever? If so, how hard and how expensive is it to replace either? Can the relay board be "bypassed" somehow? I guess first I just need to know what the thing actualy does...

On my race car with carbs, the board serves a couple of functions, first to provide the voltage regulator a place to plug in and second a plce to connect the front and rear halves of the cars electrical systems. The relays aren't used anymore, but the board is still handy to have around. I imagine it could be replaced with several plugs and connectors by someone that can read the electrical diagrams very well. The boards can go bad from corrosion, vibration and cracking of the base. Good luck

Mine does pretty much the same thing, just connects the front and the rear of the car, making me not have to run new wire, and making the ing. key still work as it should with no modifications. For the fuel pump I just have it mounted in the engine compartment near the coil, so I just run a wire from the + side of the coil to the pump -- It works great for me.
