Shaving side markers?

I hate the way the side markers stick out so far. I would like to shave mine so they stick out less, but the car is not with me right now, so I can't check to see if this is even possible. Has anyone tried to shave off 3/8" - 1/2" off the thickness of their side markers for a more streamlined look, or is it even possible?

Not that I know of... Most people who "shave" them remove them entirely. Some have replaced them with lower-profile parts (e.g., from recent VWs and so on). And some have made their own... http://members.rennlist.com/chuxter/SideLight.htm

That's kind of the idea I am going for, only I am going to try to shave or grind off the bottom of the lens cover to make it thinner if the bulb and socket allow me to do it.

Seems to me that there is a flat side marker light that is similar in diameter 914 that was used on a 924. You could probably find something that would work by looking at vehicles that use hella lenses, BMW, Audi, VW.

I have a set of clear side markers that I want to use. i am going to remove the amber ones and try a grind job on them until i get the perfect look and fit, then try the clear ones on for size! If the bulbs don't stick out any, I think I can get them almost as thick as the lens itself, or just a little thicker (trying to go as thin as possible) for the streamlined look! I would remove them altogether, but my car is 98% original and stock, so i don't want to do any body work to it.
