Question Early 911 Rear Hubs

I recently purchased a complete 911 front suspension to install on my '73 914. As part of the deal, the guy threw in some 911 trailing arms and hubs. I'm not sure what year the rear hubs are, and can't find a part number on the hubs. Does anybody have any thoughts on how I might go about determining the year of the hubs? I want to convert the car to 5 bolt hubs all the way around and it would be nice if I could get away with not having to buy another set for the rear. Thanks for your help.

Won't work unless you use the stub axles for the different splines and do some other mods....

The rears aren't so bad....it forces you to replace the rear bearings that are 25-30+ years old anyways....

BTW, GPR does an exchange rear rotor swap that is predrilled with five lugs and studs...

Question

Mike,

Do the GPR rears have enough strenght, being drilled rather than 914-6 parts? Or is it better to do it all out (stub axels, new hub and rotors)? Just curious, I might be doing a 5-bolt as soon (how long have I been saying that) as I can get enough $. Thanks!

Nathan

If you also have the stub axles the rear setup can work, I have that on my 914. I used the rear setup of an old 911 and made an adapter plate to match the earlier 911 stub axle to the 914 CV joint. This way I have vented rear rotors but no parking brake.

I have the adapters for sale (shameless self promotion)

Redrilled 914 rear hubs work fine too (that's what I used for my 5 lug conversion). I bought mine off Brad Myer at the Tweeks swap meet last year ($150 I think). If you're concerned about having more material to drill into, the earlier 914 rear hubs actually have a thicker base. Anyway, this is the cheaper way of doing the conversion. Oh, make sure that you use only Porsche wheel studs. BTW, FAT (based in Cali) can also do this swap for you using your hubs.

Thanks a bunch MikeZ...the redrilled hubs will be a lot cheaper. And if you were doing all those burnouts (I've seen the pics on nosubstitute.org!) on them w/o them breaking I think I'll be ok Thanks a bunch!
