Has anyone done this wrong

Has anyone ever adjusted valves to tight and found out what the effects were?? I think i may have them a little(very little) tight. The engine won't start after a complete rebuild. Would slightly tight valves cause a no start problem?? I even sprayed starting fluid in and it HAD NO AFFECT on the engine. The engine is a 74 2.0.

ive never gotten that tight but if the intake or exoughst wont open it cant breath. so i would assume if thier that tight it would not start. readjust them right and see what happens. You definately dont want it to ru with tight valvles

I would check spark, ignition timming and injector firing since the engine was just rebuilt and something could be miss-set. The valves could have no clearance when cold and the engine should still start but run progressivly worse and worse as it get hot. If the valves were not shutting and there was a very small valve to piston clearance they could hit, but you'd hear that when cranking the engine or turning it by hand. Starting a new and rebuilt engine is nearly the most stressful thing a 914 owner can experience, except for the oil pressure light coming on in turn nine flat out at Willows! Good luck.

Hello

To thigt adjustement will boost the power output untill the valve overheats and drops from the steem.
