Drilling rear hubs
I am trying to convert my 70 914 into a 5 bolt pattern for the wheels. The front is already done and all I need to do is the back. After checking my options, and my check book, I am opting to redrill the rear hubs into the 5 pattern. I have taken the hubs to a machine shop but they didn't know how to do it. They wanted ME to mark the hubs so they could drill them. I don't know where to take the hubs to get them drill out correctly. Do you guys have any suggestions. I want a place that has done this before. A place where I can just package up the hubs and ship them out, and get them back done and ready to go. What company can do this for me?

your hubs should already have bosses for the five lug pattern.
http://www.cbperformance.com/ pretty sure they sell the hubs on an exchange basis www.rimcovw.com check with them as well

Go to www.914world.com and do a search for Eric Shea he is in Utah. He does fantastic work and does a great job on these 5 bolt conversions because he actually welds in pieces to make the flange thicker where the studs are pressed in. That's who I am going to use.

I second the Eric Shea reference.

I haven't contacted Eric Shea yet, but I did see that cb performance has a spacer that will convert the pattern from 4 to 5 bolt. What do you guys think about using that instead of redrilling to 5 bolt?

you dont want to use the spacers. Essentially, you'd be using four lug nuts and a really long lug bolt. strength is also a concern
You would also have to roll the fenders to make space to the increased width.

Fenders are already getting flares, so that is no problem. I am worried about strength, so I guess I will contact Eric soon. Thanks

I have seen adapters come loose with bad results.
