How is this body work done properly?
 

Hello

The guy who does my body work is about to remove the front of my car which I very sadly kissed a wall of tires with a few weeks ago. I damaged both fenders and the front area between the fenders and folded the floor of the trunk a bit. OUCH!
OK....I'm over that part.
I have bought a front clip and I am very concerned about how the body guy goes about his job of aligning and attaching the old to the new.
What should I know to keep him on his toes and make sure he does this right?

I've read that measurements from the door strikers (where the latch engages the body of the car) are used as a main reference point for measuring to ensure alignment.

Hello

Just try to get a copy from the 914 workshop manual. You need to get ahold of the Body section #8. It will show how a front end repair is done.

Now without any knowledge about how to, you just can help to prepare the parts and stay out of the danger zone. Body work is something that has todo with butchering surgery.

Replacing floorpan is a bit risky as the front axle posts sit on the frontend.

Now everything can be messured and it is possible to work without the front end rig.

Make sure you have said manual as it contains all body messurments and shows the points in same 50 pictures.

Also check out your local library for books about collision repair. The swedish Volksam Insurence made several books about doing collision repairs. Those are the best books aviable. In sweden the Taxes are very high and so they repair things close to impossible.

To most work and time goes into prepairing and here you can save the most. Also check out for the best rust prevention but ask the body guy what he prefers and leave all flanges blank or just wash primer.

The 914 Club website is still there, it's just all of the stuff run by CGI scripts that went away. Stuff like the Forum and the Want Ads. (The two most interesting parts of the site.)

If this was to be a race car, I'd ask to have a couple of inches taken out.....especially since the 914 wheel base is longer than a 911. Just think how it would corner then!!!!
