Hi All,
My uncle recently left me his 914-6. It's in a lot pieces, and I have them all. Years and years ago he wanted to rebuild it and took it all apart, and even primered the sucker. For having sat in pieces in a garage for a long time, it is in remarkably good condition. I remember the car from when I was very little, always loved it. It was white with a (possibly two) racing stripe on it. I can't remember how the stripe(s) went, and he has no surviving pictures of the car. I have hunted everywhere online but cannot find a single reference or picture of a 914 with factory racing stripes. Does anyone out there have an idea where I can reference what this stripe(s) should look like? I seem to remember a thick black stripe slightly off center on the hood, with a thinner strip bordering it. Everyone in the family is fuzzy about how they looked exactly. Please help I want to paint the car soon! -Joe Edit- I errantly listed the thread as a 916, which is wrong, it's a 914-6. Last edited by JobeJoe; 05-22-2007 at 12:06 AM.. |

I'm no expert, but I don't think there were any "factory" racing stripes for 914s.
That said, I read a Porsche book a few years ago that had what must have been a Porsche-sourced photograph of a red, flared six with black stripes. The stripes were headlight bucket-width, covering the headlights and going up the sides of the hood and over the car. They were the best looking stripes I have ever seen on a 914, period.
