Hi All-
My dad drove a 71 six when I was a kid (mid 70's). Over time his exhaust (not stock) discolored the chrome above the outlet. This weekend I noticed my car is doing the same thing. I thought I was running a bursch, but I am not sure after looking at some recent pictures/postings. My exhaust is a two piece - it has a "header" that bolts to the normal heat exchanger flange and then a removable muffler/tail pipe section. It sounds great. So, back to my original question - anyone else have this discoloration problem? I am running 916 bumpers and can wax off the discoloration, I would just like to know what is causing it. My engine is a 6000 mile 2.0 with euro pistons that doesnt smoke and runs in the right heat range. I am running carbs, appropriate cam and an MSD if that matters. Thanks! -s |

Did someone remove the metal heat shield that goes over the muffler? That can cause it to discolor.

Nope - its all there. I am leaning to the explanation of heat though. I have done some more archive checking, as well as looking at some old catalogs - anyone ever heard of a Sebring muffler? I am wondering if the muffler, being that it looks like one of those Cherry Bomb things is simply getting to hot under there. Any of you guys running Monza/Anza systems have this trouble? I know they pretty much stink, but I have this idea of cutting the tips off of one, lenthening the output pipes, installing single tips to make it look like the 911 dual exhaust. It would exit through the stock hole on the driver side, and I would cut a matching hole on the passenger. I just dont want it to burn the paint on BOTH sides of the bumper!
