My 914 has been down for a fiew weeks becouse i dont know how to syinc the carbs. My mechanic has dissapeard!! hes been gone it llooks like 2 weeks now and is the only one in town that will work on a porsche this old. I just rebuilt 2 40mm dells and when i jump it it floods out. sometimes makes for some nice fire blowing though the stacks on the passenger side. My Dell handbook says that the accelerator pump screw isnt the way to fix it, and i tried anyway. i just dont know what im doing. Is there any good reading anywhere i can find on the net that would really help this idiot (by that i mean me) adjust the fuel mixtrue and and sync the carbs right??

I have adjusted a few different types of Webbers, and some Solexes (I thinks that's what they were on my friends bug). All of them are pretty much the same.
I use a Sycrometer (I think that's what its called), It measures the amount of air being sucked in the carb. With the Linkage DISCONNECTED, adjust the idle screws using the Sycrometer, until both carbs read the same. Then connect back the linkage, and adjust it so that It does not interfere with this setting you just made. To adjust the Mixture is really easy on the Webbers, I imagine it is similar on the Dells? If all you have to set this stuff is a screwdriver and some time (like most of us). Just use your Tach, and adjust the mixture so that it is the highest it can get, I normally run my carbs a little rich to help with cooling -- So I put an extra little turn on the adjusting screws after I get the highest RPM. I have never set up Dells, but I hope this helped Don't forget to put a hose on those vent pipes on the heads, If you follow the renlist you will understand why I say this...-Kevin |
