What the heck do you have in that super beetle?? With a stock engine i would think it would have blown it.

I had a bone stock T1(not from 73, it was a 71 case I think), only thing different then from how it came from the factory were the plugs and the air filter (platinum's & 1 of those foam circular aftermarket filters). I tested (sortof
)my Speedo by having a friend follow me with a walke-talke and my speedo was pretty accurate.

Fastest I ever got it was between 95-100 (was looking at road not speedometer), with 4 people in the car coming home from Anaheim after going to a concert. It was a great car, and a strong engine (too strong).

Coming home from Ventura College (in a rush to get to work on time) I was going around 75-80 on the 33 heading into Ojai, and I lost power... Melted #3

Another time on a trip up to Yosemite in a caravan of a few people, up near Edwards AFB I melted #3 again. The leader was going about 75, in the desert - and I was in the middle of the pack, so That's why I kept going that fast, even though it was against my better judgment, after my previous meltdown at that speed.

After that time I replaced the P&c's with a dished set to lower the compression, and hopefully the heat. It seemed to work great, The car ran just about as strong, and a little cooler. It still runs today About a year+ after The Edwards meltdown. Unfortunately I did end up selling her to my Grandfather a while ago though. Its hard to afford the registration+Insurance+gas+maintenance on 3 cars, when you are a College student that works part time... Speaking of which -- I am moving up to the Chico area in a month or so, I don't suppose there is some one up there who would let me use their Garage http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif , I don't think Ill really have anywhere to work on my cars..

Forgot to mention: I ended up finding out that I had some intake leaks at the boots, which lead to the ultimate destruction both times. A lean running condition can really hurt these things.

Yea, Now all I have is my 72 teener, and my '60 baja, with a 72 914 engine in the back. I have grown to love these 1.7 T4 engines, even if it is nearly imposible to find any parts at local shops.
