914/6 Conversion: 911 Oil Tank ?

Exciting time here. I am starting to order the parts needed for my 914/6 conversion. At this point I am down to just one more question and wondering if I could get some assistance. Is it possible to use the oil tank from a 911 as oppossed to one of the 914/6 stock reproduction tanks. It looks like by doing this I could save big $$$. Is this possible and if so are some things I am not considering which would make this a non cost effective alternative???

Thanks for the help.

No. The 911 tank is too big to fit in the allocated space. You will need a tank from a 914/6 or an aftermarket tank.

Doing some more research it seems that it has been done by relocating the oil tank to the back or front trunk area. Would there be any issues having the oil tank this far away from the motor? Would there be any issues to worried about in terms of oil starvation? Would the tank have to be mounted at a certain heigth relationship to the motor? To be honest with you I hate the idea of paying $875 for an oil tank....... yikes, when I have a 911 oil tank that costs $0.

It has been hacked into the rear trunk .. approx 1/2 below trunk floor and 1/2 above. Quick and dirty.

Since the eleben engine is dry sump, it needs to have the oil pump "flooded suction". Just another way of saying that the oulet of the oil tank should be higher than the oil pump. Additionally, the level of oil in the tank is significanly higher than the pump, so this helps too!

If you have one .... sit in the garage and put it in different places. Just remember .... front trunk=long oil lines=$$$$$$ and a lot of work routing them correctly.

One more idea............just thinking out loud here.

What if I were to relocate the battery to the front trunk? I don't have the car or the parts in front of me but that would seem like a good possibility.

Thanks Danny. I am hoping that if a 20 quart tank will fit on the battery location that a stock 911 tank will fit there. I will try to get by the shop this upcoming week and try to test fit it. If so that would be the way to go.
