How to remove the instrument cluster??

I want to put new gears in my odometer and need to remove the speedo. I've removed the screws on the face of the instrument panel and the whole thing is loose BUT...it doesnt want to just come out. Is there something else I need to do first?

Thanks, Roger

Odometer

Hmmm?? When I turn the trip reset (under the dash) it zero's the trip miles and also adds tenths to the odometer reading. It was a bit stiff to turn at first and seems easier now. Could this be my problem instead of the gears being bad?

You don't have to remove the instrument panel--just pull the speedo out by hand. You might want to reach up into the back of the instrument panel and give the speedo a little push, but after that you can just pull it right out.

Label all of the electrical connections, then unplug them. Unscrew the speedo cable from the speedo, and either unplug the reset cable or disconnect it from the bottom of the dash.

My first guess is that your odometer gears are a bit worn; specifically the pot-metal one that is pressed onto the shaft.
